"Gravesham" didn't exist before 1974, and was a new creation of Local Government Reorganisation. Gravesham as a place to live consists of its parts: the towns of Gravesend (including Milton and Denton) and Northfleet, plus the rural and semi rural villages like Chalk, Cobham, Higham, Luddesdowne, Meopham (including Harvel, Culverstone and Camer), Shorne and Vigo. Each has their unique character as a result of their history - and all these living experiences make up Gravesham as it is today.
