Gurmit and her family came from Nairobi and moved to Northfleet for work

Gurmit Kaur, aged 61 has lived in Northfleet for 39 years in the same house. She has 5 children and her husband worked at the local paper mills. The family came from Nairobi and moved to Northfleet for work. Gurmit was looking after her 5 children and elderly parents in law. She made her own clothes so lack of Indian shops was not a problem. The Sikh Gurdwara was in Edwin Street when she first arrived.
