Frank Gibson

How Frank came to live in Gravesham

Frank Gibson is a Conservative councillor, born in 1925 in Portsmouth and like Charles Dickens (also born at Portsmouth) his parents brought him to Gravesend but in Frank's case that was in 1936. The reason for coming to Gravesend was that Frank's father was working as an electrician in the dockyard at Portsmouth which was reducing its workforce considerably in the late 1920s. He looked for other employment and he also wanted to go where technical education was provided up to the age of 14, so he came to the newly opened Northfleet Central School to teach metalwork and technical drawing.
