Rita Grundy

Rita talks about moving in with her husband

I was born in Gravesend in 1924 in Clifton Grove. I was 22 when I met my husband. We moved in together into his parents house, we had the big area in their attic, which was quite usual then. We had a little electric cooker up their and we had to carry water up and down. We sectioned off a dining area, and a bedroom area and we were very happy there. We were on the council list and when I was expecting my second child we moved into our first council house in Valley Drive. About 5 or 6 years later we decided to save up and get our own place, which we did; we got a lovely place in Higham, which cost £1995.00.
